Project Name: Knightly News

  • Knightly News will be video segments that are televised within the school and on our school website and Facebook page. This initiative will promote culturally inclusive school unity and spirit.

  • Knightly News will cover club, committee, sporting, and even classroom events to highlight citizenship and being a proud Purple Knight. In terms of diversity, the video segments will be translated in different languages according to our student population, and then written as a scrolling ticker on the screen.

  • The reason for this initiative is that the new-to-Canada students have told us that they do not get involved in school activities because they do not always understand what the activity is, or they did not comprehend the announcements and advertisements for these events.

  • Students with English as their additional language would miss tryout dates and sign-up sheets due to language barriers and a lack of multiculturally-inviting promotion. One of the major factors for positive and successful integration into any new school is connectivity. Students need to feel like a member of the school community.

  • Knightly News will break down the language barriers and allow students from different home countries to be aware of all the wonderful events offered at our school, be interviewed, or be a part of the Knighty News crew.

  • Knightly News will not only promote upcoming events, announce sign-ups for clubs or committees, and celebrate successes within our school, it will also be used as an educational piece. Our idea is to present another language "word of the day", give facts about countries from which some of our students come, and interview student "ambassadors" who can speak about a cultural holiday that is coming up, or recount a story from their homeland, etc.

  • Educational information about sexuality and the LGBTQ+ community will also broaden student and staff's definition of diversity. In addition, we will include resources that promote positive mental health for all.
